DevOps is no longer limited to engineers. Project managers and PMP certified professionals are increasingly expected to understand how DevOps works and how it changes the way projects are delivered.
Why DevOps matters for PMPs
DevOps brings development and operations together so that software can move from idea to production faster and with fewer handoffs. Instead of one big release at the end, teams work in shorter cycles with continuous integration, testing and deployment.
For project managers, this changes how you think about scope, schedule and risk. You are not just planning one go live date any more. You are working with a constant flow of small changes, frequent releases and tight feedback loops from production.
Can a PMP become a DevOps Project Manager
Many organisations now run their projects on top of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines. Some roles are even titled “DevOps Project Manager” or “Project Manager DevOps” and ask for a mix of delivery management, stakeholder coordination and DevOps awareness.
The core PMP skills still apply here. Integration, stakeholder engagement, risk management and governance are all needed in a DevOps environment, only the cadence and tooling are different. If you are already a PMP, adding a working understanding of DevOps can open up new opportunities in modern product and platform teams.
In the video, Shoaib walks through DevOps 101 in simple, non technical language using examples that make sense for project managers. You will see the full DevOps lifecycle explained, how it compares with traditional project management and where exactly a PMP or project manager fits in.
If you are a PMP aspirant or a practising project manager and you keep hearing the word DevOps in your organisation, this video is a good starting point. Watch it and then decide how much deeper you want to go into DevOps tools and practices based on your role and career goals.
